"Princess and the Dragon",22" x 35",watercolor,
1987 It was at the time I painted this picture that I decided
I liked to do whimsical art such as that present
in children's literature. When I was at Fairfield University, my studio
art professor had one of his
illustrator friends come and speak to us about commercial art. One of the
things he told us was to
work in a way that was as familiar and natural as your own handwriting and
market that as your
style. When you are doing jobs on demand (i.e. commercial art) that is definitely
the way to go.
Fine art is for ourselves and we do our experimenting and exploring in that
mode.
