Hello. My name
is Ellen Sullivan Farley. Welcome to my Art Studio web page and I
hope you will find the information you will need to introduce you
to my school. Primarily, I am a painter and I prefer to work in oils
and watercolor but this is not important when selecting an instructor
as one's style should not influence how one teaches. At the school,
the main idea is to find your individual style which will develop
in time after working diligently at your paintings, drawings, etc.
No teacher should be trying to imprint a style on anyone! I've always
considered style like handwriting, it is unique to you and only you.
I grew up here
in Chicopee,MA. I graduated from Fairfield University in 1976 with
a degree in Fine Arts. I worked as a book designer and illustrator
ever since. Although, the best part of my career was running my art
school, Artists Inc., in the Boston area in a town called Stoneham.
This was the reason I decided to do the same thing here in Chicopee
where I grew up.
Hopefully, you will be joining us here at the studio to find the artist
within yourself. All classes are small (10 students ) and individual
attention is given to each student on his or her chosen art project.
Students work at their own pace on their own project in the medium
of their choice. The four-week payment schedule is about payment only
and not about student progress. This is a Fine Arts course and not
a craft class so please don't expect to produce complicated paintings
in a four week period. As any subject worth learning, this will take
time and patience which is why most art courses sign people up for
a semester at a time. Due to the personal nature of this studio, I
established this four-week payment schedule for the convenience of
the student as in that time one will know whether they like the program
or not. It also makes it more convenient timewise; as most people
can plan 4 weeks into the future versus 12 or 16 weeks into the future.
The Art Studio offers classes in a four week consecutive series. There
are no make-ups or refunds (see Make-up policy). This program is offered
all year and students may continue to maintain a space by paying for
the next series in their fourth class.
No spaces will be held without payment. Students
may enroll in a four-week session as soon as an opening exists. Four
week payment schedule begins when student starts classes. If you leave
after your four-week schedule is completed and wish to return at a
later date you will be subject to the availability of space in the
class of your choice.
Make-up Policy: Only planned absences are allowed
and these must be scheduled with the teacher at the time you sign
up for your four-week session. There are no make-ups for any class
missed once the four-week period begins and no refunds for missed
classes. Planned make-ups are sometimes possible but as the classes
fill up there will be no place to make up a class. If it is possible
to make-up a class, the missed class must be made up during your four
week session at a different class period other than the one you are
assigned to. If this is not possible you will have to forfeit
the class.
