"The Bridge in Town", Civita Castellana", 15"x
10", oil on paper, 2005, NFS
| You would never believe it but I am sitting on a wedge of land in a cavernous river valley looking back at the town. I believe it was a 300 ft. drop on both sides. This property was a gated area in town that had an old tower on the property which was a tomb site for an ancient population that lived there ages ago. Growing up in America, it is amazing to see such old evidence of humanity. Underneath this tower was what appeared to be catacombs. It was very interesting to say the least. This tower was a subject painted by Corot back in his day when he visited this area. Unfortunately, I didn't paint the tower but there was so much to see on this property it was difficult to pick what I wanted to paint. I was quite satisfied with this selection and once again, it was overcast and I spent the whole day on this subject. Believe me I needed the whole day! This property was heavily wooded and it felt as if you were out in no where. The further out to the edges you would discover this bustling town all around you not to mention the raging river 300 feet below. To add to the ambience, a herd of goats wandered around the property the whole time in the woods. You could hear the bell on the lead goat all day long but I only glimpsed them once. |

This is where I painted all day. You can't appreciate the height from this
this picture but believe me it was quite a drop! You can see the subject of
this painting in the distance. One thing I found out is find a place to sit
out of the sun!
