"Field of Sheep, Civita Castellana", 10"x 14",
oil, 2005, NFS
On this day we
went to a farm where the view of Civita Castellana was absolutely breathtaking!
We had a tremendous
thunderstorm on this day and the weather made for interesting color problems.
The morning was overcast
and foggy while the afternoon became sunny and clear. As you can see by the
strange blue area
behind the trees the light had changed quite a bit. Well, I am new at this
plein air stuff. Anyhow, Mt. Soratte decided
to show up in the afternoon also! I, of course, was stuck in my all day painting
mode which shows you I am definitely a novice
at this weather change thing. I have debated whether to "fix" my
problem or leave it be. I think I will leave it be as a reminder
to do one painting under one circumstance and start a new one when the exposure
changes. By the way, these sheep
circled us all day long. They kept their distance at first and then pulled
in closer. One of them actually let me touch her. I was so pleased.
At this same
farm there were a new litter of border collies who would periodically attempt
to bushwack us with their cuteness.
It was a great day! Including the flash flood that came down the hill. Hey,
this is painting outdoors!
